My Home Office Tour

One of the perks of working from home is designing your own office space. Prior to moving into our new house in September, I set up my ‘office’ at our dining table every morning. I stored all of the clothes for my online boutique in a big walk-in closet along with my various printers, packaging supplies, scale, and other miscellaneous items for my boutique. So almost every day I would carry my printers, scale, and packaging supplies out to the kitchen table and set up shop there until the work day was over and then I would put everything back in the closet. Or, let’s be honest, sometimes I would just shove everything to one side of the dining table so there was enough room for us to eat dinner!

Now that we have a larger living space, we were able to turn one of the three bedrooms into my office. Let me tell you, it is so much easier to have everything in one space and not have to move all of my supplies around from room to room every day. Now I have a huge walk-in closet full of only clothes and accessories, my printers are permanently plugged into the wall so I no longer have to lug them around from place to place, and I have an actual desk that I don’t have to clear off every night.

The room itself is about 12′ x 10′ and while that is such an upgrade, I still find myself running out of space half of the time due to constant inventory rolling in and trying to find new space to put stuff. Ideally I would like a desk to work at, along with a separate table dedicated solely to packaging (maybe in my future office!), but for now, I just set up my ‘packaging station’ on the floor and package them all there. Gotta work with what you got, right?!

This room originally had just an average looking ceiling light when we moved in, but we replaced it with a ceiling fan because, really, you can’t have rooms without ceiling fans when you live in Texas! I used my old wardrobe from Pottery Barn (I’ve had it since high school!) to store some of the smaller items for my boutique, while most of the clothing is stored in the large walk-in closet. We got rid of our old desk which was a hand-me-down from my parents and we bought an affordable, but cute and versatile desk on Wayfair. Since I have multiple printers and other items that I didn’t want to clutter my desk, I bought a new bookshelf (also from Wayfair), which I’d definitely recommend! Some finishing touches I added were the mirror in the corner for try-on videos, a simple painting to add some decor to the room (both from Home Goods), and a hat wall above my desk so I have a place to display and store all of my hats.

This is the first room in our house that is officially decorated and doesn’t necessarily need additional work. The rest of the rooms still need wall decor and other items added to it, but we’re working on those slowly over time. Plus, we most likely will have to transform our guest room into a nursery with the baby on the way! Decorating a house adds up quickly, so we’re trying to spend little by little so we don’t spend a ton of money all at once.
